I design timber buildings and I'm obsessive about where the wood comes from. Most of my projects are small: a pavilion, a bridge over a canal, a school extension. The work is slow, but the buildings are meant to be taken apart and used again. I cycle to every site, which gives me a lot of time to think about joints.
